Our Mission

The Union Auxiliary Guard (UAG) began as a cooperative effort between the First Federal Division, the Grand Armies of the Republic and the chief civil and military representative of the Kingdom of Bunyoro – Kitara in the United States. Salutes were rendered to His Majesty The Omukama Solomon I Iguru of the Kingdom of Bunyoro – Kitara during the Stones River Reenactment, Lebanon, Tennessee. This Salute was noticed and spoken about in palaces in Africa and Europe, was commented on in North and South America, Europe, Africa and Australia; and had a cultural influence beyond what could be imagined at that time.

This cooperation was approved by His Majesty and he desires that the honorable and skilled men who rendered this Salute to him, and those in the reenacting hobby, serve alongside his Royal Honour Guard as a respected and valued Auxiliary unit.

His Majesty realizes that the United States played a key role in ending African slavery and has granted a posthumous Knighthood in the Honourable Order of the Omukama Chwa II Kabalega to President Abraham Lincoln for his role. The Brevet issued for the President can be seen in the Lincoln Museum, Hodgenville, KY, the birthplace of President Lincoln. Wishing to expand on that connection, His Majesty welcomes any reenactor who wishes to serve in the Union Auxiliary Guard with a warm welcome and an appreciation for their service.

Knighthood

One of the most exciting rewards for being a part of the Union Auxiliary Guard is the opportunity to earn a real Knighthood, approved by a real King, in an internationally recognized Order. While there are requirements to be met, and this honor will not be just given away, there are real opportunities for our members.
