Omukama Solomon Iguru I

His Majesty Omukama Rukirabasaija Agutamba Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I

Omukama is Bantu for "King of Kings"

Born on June 18, 1948, His Majesty is the 49th Omukama of the Kingdom of Bunyoro – Kitara and the 27th Omukama of the Babiito Dynasty. His Majesty was in exile from 1967 – 1993 due to the period of dictatorships that Uganda suffered. His Majesty ascended the throne in 1994 and dedicated his Kingdom to God in 2013. All the Kings of the several Ugandan Kingdoms can trace their lineage back to the Babiito Dynasty.

His Majesty takes an interest in the American Civil War due to the ending of African slavery in the United States. In recognition of his efforts, His Majesty awarded President Abraham Lincoln the Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of Omukama Chwa II Kabalega in 2019, with the official presentation happening on Oct. 12, 2019. The Brevet was presented to the Lincoln Museum, Hodgenville, Kentucky and is on display there. This is the first and only posthumous awarding of this honor.

As His Majesty is a constitutionally recognized King, he is entitled to a Royal Guard. In addition to his Royal Guard in Uganda, His Majesty granted permission for the establishment of the Royal Honour Guard Abroad – Union Auxiliary Guard (UAG) to serve alongside the Royal Honour Guard, which serves His Majesty around the world. Therefore, His Majesty takes an interest in the UAG as it serves him as Royal Guards and it is His Majesty who is ultimately the Commander-in-Chief of the Union Auxiliary Guard in addition to being the UAG’s ultimate fons honorum. He also supports the UAG’s efforts to preserve and recreate history.
